The mission of Spirit and Truth Church & Ministries is three fold:
- to convert the lost to believers
- to mature believers into disciples
- to train and equip those disciples to carry out the great commission as missionaries
…so that they might in turn convert the lost to believers …
Who/what is a believer?
A believer is someone who has confessed that Jesus is Lord, and BELIEVED in their heart that God raised Him from the dead (Romans 10). This person, having saving faith, is saved by the grace of God. However, until the process of maturation, they are described in scripture as a babe in Christ, only able to digest milk (the basic, foundation elements of their newfound faith).
Who/what is a disciple?
A disciple, in basic terms, is a disciplined follower of the teachings and example of Jesus the Christ. Every disciple is a believer; but not every believer has become a disciple. The fruit of discipleship is a life that reflects a transformed mind (Romans 12), love for others (John 13:35), and the characteristics described as the fruit of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23)
Who/what is a missionary?
A missionary is a disciple whose life is being lived on (outwardly focused) mission. The guiding principle in the life of a missionary is to allow the Spirit of God in them to be revealed to the world around them through all that they do in such a way that God, not the missionary, gets the glory (Matthew 5:16); then take advantage of the opportunities the Spirit affords to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ as his witnesses wherever they are (Acts 1:8). The missionary sees opportunities to evangelize and make disciples in every aspect of their interaction with others. It’s not just their walk, or their talk…but both. The witness of their walk with God and before the world lends credibility to their talk when proclaiming his wonderful works.
